Allophycocyanin XL
Allophycocyanin XL
(APC) is a fluorescent probe commonly
used in FACS analysis. APC is a large
protein (approximate molecular weight
105 kDa) containing many fluors, so few
dye molecules can be conjugated to an
antibody. Nonetheless the probe is very
bright due to its high absorption coefficient
and quantum efficiency, as well as its
emission in a part of the spectrum with
low cellular autofluorescence. APC
absorbs at 650nm and emits at about 680nm,
but can be excited by either a dye laser
(595-605nm), or a HeNe laser (633nm).
